Professional Development Director, October 1, 2025-September 30, 2027 Term
Caty Byerly Rezendes

Candidate Statement:

My path through the interior design field has been unconventional. I've always had one foot in traditional practice and fortunate to experiment in adjacent fields. Stops along the way: Balinese imports and custom furniture design; design and marketing director for a prestigious Hawaii architect; content curation and brand development for a Hawaii-based lifestyle maven; designing venues and brand experiences for a global Japanese wedding brand; curating TEDx events, art installations, and storytelling coaching; executive coaching and corporate video/agency work; to now a focus on sustainability design, thought leadership, and coalition-building.

Orbiting these worlds, I see so many opportunities to bring interesting, holistic programming to the membership in service of building new relationships and deepening existing ties. My favorite parts of my work have been around collaboration, learning, and amplifying the creativity of others:

-- Developing artists work via client commissions
-- Learning the world of sourcing and buying while developing a bedding line and consignment concept store
-- Creating community and deep cohort connections through a novel speaker coaching program
-- Working with a multidisciplinary team on photo shoot sets
-- Finding meaningful engagements with large-scale TEDx partner activations

Bringing in varied voices and viewpoints in I think can help designers engage in all the facets of this career, spark creativity, and make memorable experiences.
