Advocacy
ASID New England (ASID NE) is proud to support a unified advocacy initiative working to secure legal recognition and independent practice rights for interior designers in every New England state. Through our involvement in the Consortium for Interior Design—in collaboration with the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ) and IIDA New England—we are actively pursuing legislation in Rhode Island that allows NCIDQ-certified interior designers to independently submit drawings for permits, lead projects, and contribute fully to the built environment.
Interior designers are trained to create spaces that protect public health, safety, and welfare. Yet in many states, these professionals are still unable to practice to the full extent of their education and expertise. Our goal is to change that—but we can’t do it without the support of committed partners like you.

Why does advocacy matter?
-
Empower Qualified Designers: We’re advocating for legislation that allows NCIDQ-certified interior designers to independently submit drawings for permits, lead projects, and contribute fully to the built environment.
-
Protect Public Safety: Legal recognition ensures that only qualified professionals are entrusted with designing code-compliant, safe, and accessible spaces.
-
Promote Economic Growth: Expanding the scope of practice for interior designers fosters competition, innovation, and opportunity in each New England state’s design and construction industries.
Donate to support a future where interior designers are recognized, respected, and empowered. Your contribution—no matter the size—makes a meaningful impact.
